Touches of red — a G-SHOCK brand color that also evokes Hachimura’s passion for the game — are added to set off the gold color of the dial, which features a basketball-court motif. The black band highlights the watch face’s powerful impact and pulls the design together for a timepiece that projects focus and strength. Hachimura’s original logo featuring the symbol 八 (hachi in Japanese, meaning “eight”) is engraved on the case back, and the side button at the 8 o’clock position is laser engraved with the hachi symbol, as well. These and other Hachimura-inspired symbols are sprinkled throughout the design, for a collaboration worthy of a true global basketball sensation. After graduating from Meisei High School in Miyagi in 2016, Hachimura attended Gonzaga University in the United States. As a member of the Gonzaga University basketball team, he became the first Japanese national to play in a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament. Hachimura received the 2018-2019 Julius Erving Award, which recognizes the top men’s collegiate small forwards of the year. He made history when he became the first Japanese-born player ever to be chosen in the NBA Draft, going to the Washington Wizards as the ninth overall pick. Hachimura joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2023.
